With the style of a bygone era, the caledonian hilton hotel edinburgh (known locally as the 'Caledonian' or the 'Cally') was opened in 1903 as the flagship hotel of the Caledonian Railway. Built to cater for those travelling between London and their Highland estates, its owners have ignored trends to update and modernise by removing classic architecture, so the hotels imposing Victorian decor, marble, burnished-metalwork, pomp and history have been faithfully restored and preserved.
Sat in the heart of the city (on Princes Street), this elegant, grand and opulent 5 star hotel has huge arched corridors and grand sweeping staircases, great views of the castle, is close to edinburgh city centre and the attractions of the west end, has excellent facilities including an award wining restaurant, a further restaurant, a trendy cocktail bar and a health club.
The public rooms of the caledonian hilton hotel edinburgh are reminiscent of Edwardian splendor and traditional afternoon tea is still served in the high-ceilinged hotel lounge.
The majority of the 250 of the bedrooms are very large and comfortable with high ceilings and picture windows (many with views of the castle or princes street). All were refurbished in 2003, with large beds, en-suite bathrooms with power showers and the highest in room facilities. Or, should you require something of even higher standard, the hotels suites provide just that.
The caledonian hilton edinburgh provides a fine base from which to explore Scotland's historic capital. It is situated in the heart of the city providing quick and easy access to the main shopping area in Princes Street, the historic Royal Mile, Holyrood Palace, theatres, pubs, restaurants and many other attractions. The hotel is also only 30 minutes by car from Edinburgh Airport.
