More information on the glasshouse hotel edinburgh
Conde Nast rated the glasshouse as 'one of the 50 hottest hotels in the world in 2004' and Traveller Magazine called it 'the hippest place to rest your head in Scotland'. Read a detailed review of this hotel from the Times newspaper - Glasshouse Hotel Edinburgh.
The glasshouse hotel edinburgh is the cities newest five star boutique hotel. Set in the middle of the cities attractions, although the entrance to this intimate 65 room hotel is through the facade of the 150 year old Lady Glenorchy Church, the hotel itself has an ultra modern interior.
Opened in June 2003 and sat on the 5th and 6th floors of the Ormi Centre, the public rooms at the glasshouse hotel edinburgh are decorated with a mix of man made and natural materials and in rich, spicy tones, which complement the dramatic floor to ceiling windows that give the hotel its name and distinctive character.
The hotel has a two acre rooftop garden with panoramic views of the city and the Firth of Forth, plus space to enjoy peace and tranquility throughout your stay. There is also a gallery space featuring local artists and, although there is no restaurant, there is the 'Snug' - a private lounge with an honest bar.
The decision not to have a restaurant was made to ensure that the glasshouse is not open to non-residents, to give it an intimate homely feel and guests a feeling ultimate privacy, or of staying at an exclusive club.
If you feel peckish though, there is 24 hour room service and breakfast is served in the Observatory. Plus there is a good choice of restaurants within five minutes of the hotel, including a couple in the Omri centre. Residents also receive membership of the holmes place health club which is next door.
The 65 contemporary styled bedrooms and 18 suites feature unique glass bathrooms and dramatic floor to ceiling windows with views either over the city or the Carlton Hill Folly. They have a sitting area with state of the art entertainment system, and the masses of natural light that these windows let in creates a feeling of 'freedom in a modern, chic setting'. Most rooms have their own patios or a terrace and each of the hotels suites is named after a traditional Scottish whisky, with a decanter of that very whisky provided.
The glasshouse hotel edinburgh provides a chic, stylish and very private base from which to explore Scotland's historic capital. Located at the foot of Calton Hill in the heart of the city centre, it is next door to the edinburgh playhouse and just a few steps from princess street and edinburgh castle. It provides quick and easy access to the historic Royal Mile, Holyrood Palace, theatres, pubs, restaurants and many other attractions. The hotel is also only 30 minutes by car from Edinburgh Airport.
